Building Secure Applications on OpenVMS

Today, many applications require a degree of security to ensure that data is entered, modified, and viewed by authorized individuals. OpenVMS has extensive facilities for controlling access to and modification of information and restricting access to programs. This session introduces attendees to the OpenVMS facilities which can be leveraged to provide a consistent, secure computing environment without the need for special user written security code. Additionally, since these security features are part of the base functionality provided by OpenVMS, they are more creditable when applications environments are audited. These built-in functions also provide a higher degree of assurance than custom purpose code. The techniques described are applicable to all applications, whether the language used is DCL, or one of the conventional programming languages used on OpenVMS (e.g. FORTRAN, COBOL, C/C++)
